As opposed to tables and charts which are used to display large and/or historical data sets in a tabular and graphical format; gauges are commonly used to display a single variable within a range of possible values at a specific moment in time. For example, there are gauges on the dashboard of a car to indicate the rpm of the engine, the temperature of the oil and the available fuel.
In the business world, gauges can easily answer questions such as: what is my revenue year-to-date? What is my inventory for Product A? Or, what are my month-to-date payables? In essence, gauges display real-time measurements and are specifically designed to convey status quickly, accurately and effectively.

Gauge Types
Radial Gauge The most common and conventional type of gauge. Chart FX Gauge offers a vast variety of radial borders, needles, markers and tickmarks to fully customize the look and feel of your gauge. The ability to add inner gauges, multiple indicators and/or multiple scales allows every user to create gauges as advanced as their data visualization and analysis needs.
Linear Gauge Another common type of gauge, linear gauges display data on a horizontal or vertical scale. Similar to the radial gauges, linear gauges come complete with a variety of borders, marks, fillers and indicator styles and allow complete customization.
Digital Meter This type of gauge provides 7 segment and 14 segment indicators to display numerical values or text. Although a more simple type of gauge, it can be extremely useful when using it in combination with radial or linear gauges.
LED Panel Similar to the digital meter, the LED Panel displays text or numerical data but using a series of LED lights to display the values.
